College Park Adventist Church Seniors’ Ministry Initiative

The past holiday season provided seniors of the College Park Seventh-day Adventist Church a special opportunity to give to others. The Seniors’ Ministry team chose to spread Jesus’ light by creating gift bags for seniors, both Adventists and non-Adventists. Each gift bag served as a tangible reminder that they are loved, valued, and not forgotten.
The Seniors’ Ministry reflects College Park Church’s mission: “Love God, Love Others, Share the Gospel, Serve the World (Community).” Through careful planning and collaboration, we partnered with other ministries to make this outreach meaningful:
- Heaven’s Trail Adventurer Club - crafted personalised Christmas cards.
- Young Adult (LITE) Ministry (ages 18-30) - contributed by:
- Assisting the Adventurers with creative card designs.
- Helping purchase bulk items, pack gift bags, and deliver them to Kingsway Pioneer Apartments.
- Sharing musical talents during the program.
- Visitation Ministry – delivered gift bags to shut-ins and long-term care church members.
- Deaconesses – provided homemade treats.
- Flora Curtis – offered hot chocolate and juice.
The team decided that the gift bag items would have a spiritual focus. Each bag would include a journal and pen, a mini tissue pack, a personalised Christmas card from the Adventurers, a Glow tract, a magnifying glass, a mini hand lotion, and candy.
On December 20, the seniors at Kingsway Pioneer Apartments felt blessed by the Heaven’s Trail Adventurers, who shared their musical talents and sermonettes. They were delighted when asked to name their favourite songs, which the LITE group and volunteers joyfully performed.
Following the program, the residents enjoyed light refreshments. The LITE Ministry team knocked on each resident’s door and delivered the gift bags or left them at the door.
Every volunteer and ministry team member was blessed through this outreach, embodying Acts 20:35 (NIV): “… the words the Lord Jesus Himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
