Youth Communication Team
Ready to Go!
|
|
Last Sunday afternoon in the Ontario Conference Boardroom, the Adventist Youth Ontario Communications (AYOC) team convened for their second in-person meeting. The goal was threefold: establish goals for the team, identify events requiring coverage, and determine needed additional resources. Akehil Johnson, Vice President of Communication for AYOC, chaired the meeting. Also in attendance were Youth Director Pastor John Scott, In Pyo Hong, Associate Director, and Pastor Shawn Ellis, Director of Communications and Media.
The meeting commenced with a devotion led by Pastor Scott, who drew inspiration from Isaiah 52:7, emphasizing the joy that comes to those who hear the Gospel from those "reporting" it. The message set a tone for the purposeful discussions that followed. Pastor Ellis shared conference communication initiatives and reminded the team of the importance of inspiring and reaching those within the Adventist community and also reaching out beyond the church with messages that share our distinctive Christ-centered Adventist message of hope and wholeness.
An overview of the role of youth communications within AYOC was presented, followed by energized, in-depth discussions among team leaders for social media, web, print, and marketing.
Pastor Ellis reflected on the meeting, saying, "It was exciting to be part of it. The AYOC team has a clear, focused vision. I am eager to collaborate with them and help to ensure the media they produce is shared with all of Ontario." His sentiments echoed the energy and determination that permeated the gathering, leaving attendees invigorated and ready to embark on the mission ahead.
As the meeting drew to a close, plans were set in motion, and the team was eager to start implementing their communication strategy to reach the youth of Ontario.
Stay tuned for updates from the AYOC team.

Lady Lazarus An Inspiration to Women
|
|
From March 7 to 9, Brenda De Medeiros and Adenike Olatunde, Women's Ministries leaders at Really Living Seventh-day Adventist Church, opened their doors to a transformative event—the Lady Lazarus Series, presented by Patricia Ferreira Lopez, director of Children and Women's Ministries at the Ontario Conference. Women from all walks of life were invited to engage in a weekend of prayer, reflection, and empowerment.
Each presentation was bathed in prayer as Ferreira Lopez addressed themes that often keep women from realizing their God-given purpose and hinder their self-image. With insight and empathy, she challenged participants to confront barriers hindering their spiritual growth and embrace the journey toward healing and restoration in Jesus Christ.
Attendees left the event deeply impacted. Reflecting on their experiences, they shared their thoughts:
"I hope that I can live out some of the takeaways, such as being vulnerable, loving my sisters, and meeting them where they are. I am willing to try."
Another participant remarked, "It was eye-opening, interesting, well-organized, informative, educational, very real, and a great time!"
While the series has ended, the Lady Lazarus program has left a legacy encouraging women to live out their God-given purpose with courage and conviction.
