A week has passed since the devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on August 14, 2021.
Rescuers are working around the clock as the death toll has risen to over 2,000 people. More than 12,000 people were injured, and many more are homeless.
The added damage to Haiti's fragile infrastructure has been tremendous. In excess of 100,000 homes and buildings were damaged or destroyed. Thirty-two health facilities were damaged, and approximately 600,000 people need humanitarian assistance.
ADRA mobilized its local emergency response team as soon as it was safe to do so and is on the ground providing relief.
In the immediate aftermath, ADRA is distributing food, water, hygiene items, and tent tarpaulins to over 5,000 affected people. However, this is only the beginning of the work that needs to be done. Going forward, ADRA plans to help survivors rebuild their homes and lives.
We thank God that Tropical Storm Grace was not as powerful as anticipated. It would have further jeopardized the earthquake survivors, who have already suffered so much.
