Toronto East Adventist Church Hosts International Pathfinder Weekend

The Toronto East Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted a memorable International Pathfinder Weekend under the theme "God's Love in Action" from July 17–18, 2026. Envisioned by Master Guide Valrie Bailey, Director of the Toronto East Marantas Pathfinder Club, the weekend brought together Pathfinders, leaders, and guests from across Canada, including Vancouver, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, and the Greater Toronto Area, as well as Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and the United States.

The celebration opened on Friday with a drill display by the Ontario Conference Drill Team, and Assistant Pastor Nicholas Patrick extended a warm Toronto East welcome to the delegation. Pastor Selburn Fray, Adventurer, Master Guide, and Pathfinder (AMP) Ministries Director for the Ontario Conference, officially opened the weekend and extended greetings.

During the vespers service, a welcome table greeted visitors with tokens of appreciation, symbolising the unity of the Pathfinder family. Greetings were shared by Pastor Joel Jumpp, Youth Ministries Director of the East Jamaica Conference, and Elder Kerwin Stephens of the South Caribbean Conference. Pathfinder clubs showcased skills developed through their training. Premela Patterson of the Toronto East Marantas Pathfinder Club delivered an inspiring message, followed by a heartfelt appeal by Elder Stephens.

Sabbath worship focused on the sub-theme "Growing in God's Love." The delegation was recognised and welcomed by the host pastor, Dr. Preston Patterson. This was followed by video greetings from Pastor Sibusiso "Busi" Khumalo, Youth Director of the General Conference, and Pastor Leslie Moses, President of the South Caribbean Conference, highlighting the worldwide impact of Pathfinder ministry. Chester Lewis, Executive Coordinator of Ontario Pathfinder Ministries, also brought greetings.

A major highlight was a compelling dramatisation of the story of Jonah, written by Nolan Ryan, Junior Counsellor of the Toronto East Marantas Pathfinder Club. The presentation reminded the congregation of God's mercy and the importance of responding to His call. Musical selections by the Adventurers, Pathfinders, and the International Pathfinder Weekend Mass Choir added to the spirit of worship.

Pastor Jumpp delivered an impactful message, reminding the congregation that although we may choose to "buy a ticket to Tarshish," God, in His mercy, lovingly redirects us to our true mission—our "Nineveh." The AY program celebrated the diversity of the Pathfinder movement through cultural presentations and ministry highlights.

Beyond the official programs, participants enjoyed social activities, including excursions to Niagara Falls, Canada's Wonderland, and participation in the CYSA Sports Day. These activities provided valuable opportunities for fellowship and cultural exchange while fostering lasting friendships.

Community outreach was a meaningful aspect of the weekend, as children from the Glendower community were invited to participate in the celebrations. Meals were also prepared for the neighbouring fire service department as an expression of appreciation for its dedicated service.

The International Pathfinder Weekend was a resounding success, demonstrating that God's love is not only to be received but also to be put into action. The Toronto East Marantas Pathfinder Club extends sincere appreciation to every volunteer, participant, sponsor, leader, and supporting conference whose dedication and commitment made this international celebration possible.
