Integration Dinner Welcomes Francophone Newcomers to Ottawa

On October 12, 2025, the Community Services department of the Ottawa Francophone Church, in partnership with Personal Ministries, hosted its third annual integration dinner for Francophone newcomers.
More than forty people participated in the event, which aimed to help Francophones adjust to life in Canada. Attendees learned about the cultural significance of Canadian Thanksgiving and the importance of acknowledging the land on which they reside.
Participants discovered what makes Canada a welcoming nation and learned about available community services. The event featured personal stories from long-term community members who shared their experiences of immigration, providing both valuable advice and inspiration to newcomers.
The relaxed atmosphere of the dinner encouraged newcomers to ask questions, foster relationships with long-term residents, and win prizes. The organizers emphasized that integration encompasses more than just bureaucratic procedures; it also necessitates cultural understanding and social connections.
The integration dinner combines functional knowledge, personal stories, and a sense of community to address various aspects of a newcomer’s journey. Ralph Seraphin, the Community Services leader, noted that the strong attendance highlights the ongoing need for such initiatives and confirmed plans to continue this annual tradition.
