The Oshawa's Civic Recreation Centre was buzzing with excitement as the Christian Youth Sports Association (CYSA) hosted its annual track and field event on Sunday, July 16. The event brought together over 10 churches, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among the participants. Some churches even had community members join their ranks adding to the fun and fellowship.
Clifton Davis, a first-time participant in the 1500m, 800m, and shotput events, expressed his feelings, saying, "It was enjoyable to compete in such a good and positive atmosphere. Everyone is cheering everyone on, no matter what team you're on or where you place."
From the little ones to the seniors, races were available for all age groups. Young Tekai from the Scarborough Flames emerged victorious in the kids' 1500m race. "The last 100 meters were tough. I just thought about doing a personal best," she shared. Meanwhile, Sienna from Apple Creek couldn't hide her excitement after finishing first in her heat. "I would definitely come back next year," she exclaimed, already looking forward to the next event.
Even seasoned participants found satisfaction in the competition. Brother Hermina, a deacon at Agape Church, who ran for the first time the 100m race in the 51-60 year old category was elated with his victory.
Many of the organizers were very pleased with the outcome of the day. Speaking with one of the administrators of the event, they highlighted the importance of CYSA as a community event, where both church and members of the local community can come together and participate in a fun and welcoming environment.
The CYSA track and field event showcased the talents of the participants and also fostered a strong sense of community and support. If your church missed out this time, be sure to mark your calendars for next year's CYSA track and field meet. It's an experience you won't want to miss!
