Breaking the Chains: A Generation in Pursuit of Freedom
Posted: May 6th, 2026

In a world where invisible pressures shape choices and identities, one essential question arises: how can young people live freely, authentically, and firmly rooted in their faith? This profound question was at the heart of the francophone youth retreat, held from April 24 to 26, 2026, at Manoir Montpelier, under the compelling theme “Breaking the Chains.”
Over the course of three days, this peaceful setting was transformed into a sacred space of encounter. Young people from francophone churches across the region gathered not merely for an event, but for a journey—one marked by reflection, renewal, and transformation.
A Vision Driven by Committed Leadership.
Under the direction of youth pastor Germain Jean-Pierre, the event was thoughtfully organized with intentionality and care. Supported by a dedicated team, he helped create an environment conducive to healing, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Retreat director Sophia Frezin provided clear vision and structure to the program, while administrator Keyssie Beaubrun ensured effective coordination throughout. Worship sessions, led by Michaëlle Dumesle and her team, were marked by depth and authenticity. Behind the scenes, Patrick Alexandre oversaw logistics with diligence, ensuring every detail contributed to the overall success of the retreat.
The experience was further elevated by strong technical and musical support. Technician Kerby Beaubrun, assisted by Nathaniel Théodore, ensured excellence of all audiovisual aspects, allowing the program to flow smoothly. Pianist Roudy Lucien enriched the worship experience, adding a profound and inspiring musical dimension.
Giving Voice to Invisible Chains
At the heart of the retreat, a series of impactful presentations addressed—with honesty and relevance—the challenges facing today’s youth.
Main speaker Pastor Edwin Paul Darius delivered powerful messages centred on the importance of recognising and breaking the chains that hinder spiritual growth. Through both biblical insight and practical application, he invited participants into deep personal reflection.
Other speakers expanded on this theme by addressing specific issues. Christina Sainté explored the impact of social media on mental health, sparking significant awareness. Judeline Théodore examined the concept of false intimacy, shedding light on superficial relationships that weaken authenticity. Nick Manigat addressed the “invisible chains” related to finances and mental health, offering practical tools for overcoming them.
In the same spirit, Hersline Saint Vilus delivered a compelling presentation on addiction, addressing directly the realities of marijuana use, alcohol, and vaping. Her clear and straightforward approach prompted meaningful reflection and dialogue among participants.
The retreat concluded with a final workshop led by Pastor Darius, “Staying Free: Living Without Chains on a Daily Basis,” which provided practical guidance for maintaining spiritual freedom beyond the retreat.
A Community in Motion
Beyond the formal sessions, a genuine sense of community flourished throughout the weekend. Times of prayer, small-group discussions, and informal interactions fostered authentic relationships among the participants.
Attention to detail also played a significant role. Meals, carefully prepared by Sister Annette, were greatly appreciated, while the attentive presence of Nurse Brunette Lafleur contributed to the well-being and comfort of all.
Beyond the Weekend
As the retreat came to a close, one conclusion stands clearly: something had changed. Faces, testimonies, and renewed commitments reflected genuine transformation.
More than a one-time event, this retreat planted lasting seeds. It reminded everyone present that spiritual freedom is not merely an emotional moment but a daily journey— sustained by faith, discipline, and grace. As the young people returned to their respective realities, one challenge remained: to live each day free from chains.
