Guided by Purpose: Adventurer Leaders Strengthened for Ministry
November 20, 2025 | Martine Charles | Ontario Conference Adventurer Council
The Ontario Conference Adventurer Council (OCAC) hosted a dynamic and Spirit-filled Leadership Convention, bringing together coordinators, directors, and volunteers from across the province. Centred on the theme “Inspiring Leaders to Guide with Purpose,” the event focused on nurturing spiritual growth, strengthening practical leadership skills, and reinforcing the mission of empowering children and youth for Christ.
A Strong Spiritual Start
The day began with registration, followed by a morning devotion led by Pastor Selburn Fray, Ontario Conference Adventurer, Master Guide, and Pathfinder (AMP) Ministries Director. He emphasised compassion, diversity, and spiritual intentionality in ministry, reminding leaders that their service is not merely positional but a Christ-centred calling.
Participants then attended practical workshops, including JotForm training presented by Chidi Okwudire, Director of Heaven’s Trail Adventurer Club, and a Canva presentation workshop led by OCAC Area Coordinator Martine Charles. These sessions equipped leaders with effective digital tools to enhance ministry planning and communication.
Worship & Inspirational Message
The worship service uplifted hearts in praise under the leadership of London South Adventurer Director Chelsea Jones-Watson and Karen Pounal, followed by a moving intercessory prayer offered by OCAC Area Coordinator Madgrica Jackson.
The spoken word was delivered by Dr. Floyd Spence, who urged leaders to rise with resilience, lead with excellence, and master their mindset so they can profoundly impact those they serve.
Afternoon Leadership Development
After lunch, the afternoon session began with an introduction of Pastor Fray and his wife, followed by a presentation of the AMP Departmental Vision. The highlight was a powerful leadership training workshop presented by Dr. Spence, rooted in Exodus 3:11—“God chose you. You’re on assignment.”
He outlined three foundational pillars of leadership:
- The Preparation – Like Moses, leaders often undergo formative “wilderness experiences” that shape their character and readiness.
- The Call – God frequently chooses those who feel unqualified, yet He equips those He calls (Exodus 3:10; 4:2–5).
- The Assignment – Leadership is a step-by-step journey. Challenges will come, but “there is no test without testimony.”
Dr. Spence reminded participants that leadership is God’s work, not merely their own. With spiritual vision, leaders rise above limitations, recognising that God has positioned them for purpose. As he powerfully declared: “Do your part of the assignment. God is good and has preserved you for this.”
Closing Moments
The convention concluded with upcoming event updates from OCAC Executive Coordinator Mitsie Howe, closing reflections from Pastor Fray, a heartfelt group prayer for Jamaica and the Caribbean, and take-home snacks shared in fellowship.
Final Thought
This convention provided not only training but a spiritual recharge, reinforcing that leadership is a divine calling. As leaders return to their churches (35 participants in total), may they continue to guide with purpose, step into their assignment, and serve with courage.
More than a training event, this convention served as a spiritual recharge—affirming that leadership is a divine calling. As the 35 participants return to their churches and clubs, may they continue to guide with purpose, embrace their God-given assignment, and serve with courage.
