A Sincere Appeal from the Ontario Conference Leadership

Dear Ontario Conference Adventist Family,

Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, the first Category 5 hurricane to strike Jamaica, which caused devastation across several regions of the Caribbean. Many of our brothers and sisters in faith, including families, friends, and churches connected to our Ontario Conference Adventist community, have been deeply affected. Homes have been destroyed, livelihoods disrupted, and communities left in great need.

As followers of Christ, we are reminded that we are God’s hands in the world, called to bring hope and help to those in distress. The apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” This is our moment to live out that calling — to extend compassion and generosity to those who are suffering.

Every church member is invited to generously participate in a special offering to support our church members and their families in Jamaica and the affected, devastated areas of the Caribbean in rebuilding and restoring what has been lost. Special offerings will be collected in our churches on November 8 and 15, or you may give online through www.AdventistGiving.org by selecting the line marked “Caribbean Region Disaster.”

As the frequency of global disasters increases, we are reminded of Jesus’ soon return. These times call us to remain alert, watchful, and faithful — both in our spiritual readiness and in our commitment to help others in need. Together, let us demonstrate Christ’s love through our actions and our giving.

Let us be encouraged by Proverbs 22:9, which says, “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.”

May we each be instruments of God’s blessing and compassion in this critical hour. Thank you for your faithfulness, generosity, and continued prayers for those impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
