The Family Life Department of Bronte SDA Church is hosting a Mental Health Workshop on Sabbath, Dec. 12 at 3 pm. The workshop is entitled "Understanding Anxiety." The presenter, Hymers Wilson, is an ordained minister. He received his Master of Social Work degree in 1997 from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. He then worked for a community mental health agency in Muskoka as a Crisis Support Worker and Counsellor for about seven years. Hymers recently retired as a mental health therapist for the First Nations Inuit Health Branch of Indigenous Health Canada, serving the First Nations community of God’s Lake Narrows in northern Manitoba. Before that, he worked at Fleming College, covering the Peterborough and Cobourg campuses. For 10 years, he counseled individual students with various mental health and emotional problems and trained groups of students in Mental Health First Aid and Safe Talk (suicide prevention). Pastor Wilson has also served as a minister in the UK in the 1980s and Whitby, Ontario in the late 2000s.
