Remembering Pastor Gordon Pifher: A Legacy of Faith, Adventure and Mentorship

The Ontario Conference joins the Camp Frenda family in mourning the passing of Pastor Gordon Pifher, affectionately known as “GP,” who passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Pastor Pifher served as director of Camp Frenda from 1979 to 1985, leaving a legacy of faith, creativity and mentorship. His adventurous spirit and imaginative approach to camp ministry created unforgettable experiences for generations of young people. Pastor Pifher also served as Youth and Pathfinder Director for the Ontario Conference from 1979 – 1985.

Among the cherished memories of his leadership were his captivating campfire stories, often told over several evenings, leaving campers eagerly awaiting the next instalment. Beyond these treasured traditions, Pastor Pifher invested deeply in the spiritual growth of campers and staff, encouraging many to dedicate their lives to serving God and others.

His connection to Camp Frenda continued throughout his life. At the 2025 Camp Frenda Staff Alumni Weekend, he shared a Sabbath message and offered a prayer of dedication for Pifher Point, a planned site featuring a lookout tower and climbing wall in his honour.

In announcing his passing, his wife, Marie, shared, “My precious husband and Ginger's daddy went to sleep in Jesus Friday morning.”

She also expressed Gordon's heartfelt desire to be reunited with the Camp Frenda family when Jesus returns, a hope shared by those whose lives he touched.

The Ontario Conference extends its deepest condolences to Marie, Ginger and the entire Pifher family. We invite our church community to remember them in prayer as we celebrate a life devoted to nurturing faith, inspiring young people and serving Christ.

Details regarding a Celebration of Life service, anticipated in November, will be shared when available.
