Ashton Blake Begins New Chapter of Full-time Service with IT Department

After nearly seven years of supporting technology, communications, and media ministry, Ashton Blake is transitioning to a full-time role in Information Technology.

For nearly seven years, Ashton Blake has worked behind the scenes to help the Ontario Conference communicate, connect, and carry out its ministry through technology. Now, his role is entering a new chapter.

Effective September 1, 2026, Ashton transitioned to full-time service with the Ontario Conference Information Technology (IT) Department, following approval by the Conference Administrative Committee.

Ashton has served in a unique dual role, working part-time in IT as a technical support specialist and web developer while also providing part-time support to the Communications and Media Ministry. This experience has allowed him to bring together two areas that have become increasingly important to ministry: technology and communication.

His contributions became especially valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic, when churches and ministries had to quickly adapt to new ways of worshipping, communicating, and staying connected. Working alongside Pastor Fifa Rakotoarison, who previously served as Media Manager, Ashton helped produce high-quality video content that enabled the Conference to continue sharing the gospel and connecting with members during a challenging time.

Over the years, he has also worked alongside former Communications and Media Ministry directors Christelle Agboka and Pastor Shawn Ellis, contributing his technical expertise to numerous communication and media initiatives.

Ashton’s work has extended well beyond video production. He has helped manage the Conference studio, supporting video production, editing, and photography, and has played an important role in the audiovisual operations of annual camp meetings. He is also a regular contributor to Ontario Highlights, where his “Ministry Tech” articles explore practical ways technology can support ministry.

Much of Ashton’s work has happened behind the scenes. While audiences see the finished video, livestream, website, or presentation, they may not see the preparation, troubleshooting, editing, and technical problem-solving required to make it possible.

For Ashton, however, technology has never been simply about equipment or software. It has been a means of serving God and supporting the church's mission.

His transition to full-time IT comes at an important time for the Ontario Conference. Several major technology projects are underway, requiring dedicated attention and specialised expertise. The Conference Administrative Committee approved the IT Department’s recommendation for Ashton to devote his full working capacity to these initiatives.

Although the Communications and Media Ministry will miss having Ashton as part of its day-to-day team, his transition also creates opportunities for continued collaboration between IT and Communications. As web development, digital communication, livestreaming, media, and online ministry become increasingly interconnected, both departments will continue to work together to advance the mission of the church.

The Communications and Media Ministry is grateful for Ashton’s years of dedicated service, creativity, technical expertise, and willingness to serve wherever needed.

Ashton’s department may be changing, but his mission remains the same: to use his gifts and skills in service to God and His church.
