Students from various Ontario Adventist schools gathered at Crawford Adventist Academy on February 7th for the first Sports Association Day. This special event was the brainchild of Mr. Akeem Ambrose, a gym teacher at Crawford Academy's main campus. He wanted to allow students to play sports with kids from other schools. However, secular schools would not include Adventist Academy teams. So, Mr. Ambrose talked to gym teachers at other Adventist Academies, and together, they made the Sports Association Day happen.
The day kicked off with volleyball matches. Pastor Reynold Hazelwood, Superintendant of Schools, and David Forsey, Associate Superintendant from the Education department at the Ontario Conference, were on hand for the opening. They provided much-needed start-up funds for the event. Teams from Crawford Academy Main, East and Peel Campuses, and Windsor Adventist Academy came to play.
The excitement of the day was contagious. While the players were having fun, students buzzed in the hallways, asking what team was playing and how it was going. Many students attended the gym during breaks to watch the action and cheer on all the teams.
The Windsor Academy team had a strong performance, winning the tournament trophy. Their coach, Nudson Llagas, said, "We have been practicing as a team since December 2022. I am pleased with how well they did!" He also mentioned how great it was for the kids to meet students from other Adventist academies. Preston Patterson, lead pastor of Chatham and Leamington Seventh-day Adventist Churches, and Living Faith Adventist Company, came to support the kids from Windsor. He shared how this new Sports Association Day was a great event, and was happy everyone had so much fun. Parents from Windsor also came with the team, travelling as early as 5:30 a.m. to be there.
Mr. Ambrose said, "The Sports Association Day isn't just about sports but also about bringing Adventist schools closer together. Gym teachers from different schools met each other and developed relationships which can only help the schools in the future." While the event was successful, Mr. Ambrose mentioned that some schools wanted to join in but couldn't because of transportation costs. He hopes to raise money so that every academy that wants to participate can.
Looking ahead, the next Sports Association Day is set for March 7, where it's all about basketball. They're also planning to include other events like soccer, track and field, and touch football in the future. If you want to support the Sports Association Day, email Mr. Ambrose at aambrose@caasda.com.

Seniors Share
Ageless Testimonies
|
|
In a world often fixated on the youth, it's easy to overlook the wisdom that comes with age. Job 12:12 reminds us, "Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old." In this foundation, the book Reflections on God's Faithfulness emerges, inviting readers to learn from the rich experiences and insights shared by senior church members in the Ontario Conference.
Pastor Mansfield Edwards, the director of the Seniors Ministry, stated, "Our seniors may be retired, but they have not retired from ministry. Indeed, this collection of stories is a testament to the enduring faith and unwavering dedication of individuals who have weathered life's storms and emerged with their spirits strengthened by God's faithfulness."
Within the pages of this book, readers will find testimonies of resilience in the face of adversity, triumphs amidst trials, and unwavering commitment to serving God. These stories were selected to be instructive and inspirational and to offer insights for youth, young adults, and seniors alike.
As Pastor Edwards emphasizes, the tales shared in Reflections on God's Faithfulness are not merely accounts of the past but living testimonies of God's presence and provision in the present. They serve as guiding lights, illuminating the path of faith for those who traverse the journey of life.
Reflections on God's Faithfulness is available at ABC Christian Bookstore or online at https://form.jotform.com/240384714372052.
