President, Oakwood University

Dr. Leslie Pollard

Leslie Nelson Pollard serves as the 11th president of Oakwood University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oakwood and several graduate degrees, including a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching and Worship from Claremont School of Theology and a Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament Language and Literature from Andrews University. Dr. Pollard’s leadership since 1978 reflects local, national and international service. He has served as the senior pastor of several large churches, a youth pastor, evangelist, university chaplain, healthcare program and educational administrator, professor, ministerial educator and leadership development facilitator.

Pollard has spoken or presented in 50 countries. He is an editor and contributing author to the ground-breaking volume on leadership and cultural competence, Embracing Diversity: How to Reach People of all Cultures. He also authored Loving Leadership: A Devotional Designed to Bring Out the Best in You.” Pollard writes regularly for the Adventist Review, Ministry and Message magazines. He has published numerous articles and/or book chapters on leadership, cultural competence, and mission.

He has been married to Prudence for over 42 years. Together, they have two daughters, two sons-in-law, three granddaughters and a grandson.
