Hope 2016—the Journey! Begins September 17!

Hope 2016—the Journey! Begins September 17!

In just two days’ time, on September 17, 2016, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the long-awaited autumn evangelistic series of Hope 2016—the Journey! will begin!   It kicks off with the first two of the four meetings scheduled for East, West, North and Central regions of the GTA.

Pastor Bill Santos and Pastor Mathew Feeley will lead meetings until Sabbath, October 1, at Downsview Seventh-day Adventist Church, 37 Bakersfield St, in Downsview, and in Hall 4 at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, respectively.

The series at Downsview Adventist Church is the joint effort of churches in the Metro North Central district. Churches in the west and north-west of the city joined their efforts to hold their series at the International Centre.

The two-week series is expected to attract many visitors, and organisers are praying that God will bless the churches’ efforts to invite and take their friends to experience joyful worship and hear messages of hope and salvation.

The other two meetings—in the east and central regions, will commence on September 24 and October 1, respectively.  Pastor Mansfield Edwards will be the evangelist at Global Kingdom Ministries, 1250 Markham Road in Scarborough. Pastor Daniel A. Duffis, from New Jersey, USA, will lead in the Central district at York Memorial Collegiate Institute, 2690 Eglington Ave W. Toronto.

Organisers are making it very clear that these series of meetings should not be considered as the evangelistic event of the year, but as a journey.  In an email, on Monday, September 12, 2016, to pastors in the Metro North Central district and Ontario Conference personnel, Pastor Robert Greaves, district secretary said, “…the journey goes beyond the weeks we have set aside for the nightly preaching. However, those 13-14 nights are a climaxing of our effort.” Greaves’ emphasis is that Hope 2016 is a journey that is continuous.  Organisers want churches to adopt evangelism as a culture, a way of living, the purpose for which they exist.

'Optimum' -- Adventist Ministries Convention 2017 Set for February 2017

'Optimum' -- Adventist Ministries Convention 2017 Set for February 2017

It’s back!  Ontario Conference’s Adventist Ministries Convention (AMC) will be held February 3-4, 2017 at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel, Richmond Hill.

This news will be welcomed by the 900 local church ministries’ leaders who attended the first of the biennial event in January 2015.  Speaking of AMC 2015, Julia Clarke said, “...It was incredible!” Audrey Mitchell added, “The convention surpassed my expectations in every way!” Others described it using similar expressions. They will most probably be among the first to register for Ministries Convention 2017 when registration opens on Monday, September 12, 2016.

Organisers said that AMC 2017 will not be a repetition of 2015. While it will still feature inspirational worship services and over twenty different workshops, there are new speakers for 2017.

The theme, ‘Optimum—Spiritual Leadership in a Changing Culture’ is part of the Ontario Conference’s REACH strategy to achieve its goal to develop Health Leadership and Effective Management amongst its local church leadership. The entire convention will focus the attention of participants to recognise how culture is changing—both in their communities and in their churches--and the spiritual leadership qualities needed by ministries’ leaders to effectively minister to them.

Cost will again be the minimum possible to ensure that many will be able to attend. Registration will include Sabbath lunch. However, once registration opens on September 12, anyone planning to attend will need to act immediately because space will be limited to accommodate all the workshops. Registration will cease at the end of November. Only those who have registered will be able to attend. There will not be any last minute registrations or walk-ins.

Registration opens September 12, 2016.
